About This Access Site
The Smith Reservoir State Wildlife Area offers a boat ramp access point for paddlers and small watercraft on Ute Creek. This headwater stream is a medium-sized river, with a total length of 121 miles and an average flow of 35 cubic feet per second. The gradient is relatively steep, with an average drop of 62 feet per mile.

The boat ramp is located on the southwest shore of the reservoir, near the parking area. Two ramps are available for launching canoes, kayaks, and small motorized boats. A 10 mph speed limit is enforced on the reservoir. The closest campground, Lakes End Campground, is only accessible by boat.

As a State Wildlife Area, the site is managed for the benefit of Colorado's wildlife. Visitors will need a valid hunting, fishing, or recreational user pass to access the area. The shoreline may be uneven or sandy in places, so caution is advised when launching. Paddlers can explore the reservoir and Ute Creek, while anglers may find opportunities to fish for the creek's native species.
