About This Access Site
**Location & Access**
South Lake - 1 is a public boat ramp located in the Peabody Wildlife Management Area near Beaver Dam in Ohio County, Kentucky. The ramp provides access to the Pond River and surrounding 12-acre lake system in this scenic wildlife management area. Parking is limited to designated areas and maintained roads—please do not block gates or access roads.

**What to Expect**
This is an undeveloped access point ideal for kayakers, canoeists, and small boats looking to explore a wildlife-rich area. The sloughs and wetlands attract abundant waterfowl, and bald eagles nest nearby and use the area for hunting. The Pond River has a notable white bass run around early April, making it popular with anglers. Interior access to the WMA is primarily walk-in and boat-based, so expect a more remote, natural experience rather than developed facilities.

**Planning Your Visit**
Since the WMA is actively improving access, signage, and parking, conditions may be evolving. Check the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources website and social media for current information on facility status and any seasonal restrictions. Note that hunting occurs in the area—firearms cannot be discharged within 100 yards of the boat ramp.
