Southwinds Marina North offers a concrete boat ramp on the east side of the campground, located beneath the US 90 bridge on Amistad Reservoir near Del Rio. This is one of the main public launch points for accessing the 67,000-acre international reservoir. To reach the ramp, take US 90 west from Del Rio and turn right just before crossing Lake Amistad, then take Spur 349 toward Amistad Dam and turn right at the first opportunity.
**Important access notes:** The boat ramp itself is open to the public, though camping facilities at the marina are reserved for military and law enforcement personnel. Plan to arrive during daylight hours, as after-hours parking can create conflicts with active boating operations. Lake Use Passes are required and can be purchased at the Amistad Visitor Center (8 am–4:30 pm daily) or at automated fee machines located at nearby facilities including Diablo East and Rough Canyon.
Amistad Reservoir is an excellent destination for kayakers and canoeists, offering scenic desert landscape and multiple recreation options. Three nearby campgrounds—Governors Landing, Rough Canyon, and Spur 406—provide alternative overnight accommodations for visitors, and the Amistad National Recreation Area encompasses numerous paddling and fishing opportunities throughout the reservoir.
