About This Access Site
Spring Lake's South access point offers a single-lane concrete boat ramp located south of the causeway, situated just a short walk from a small gravel parking lot with additional parking nearby. The ramp is easily accessible via the Spring Lake blacktop road. This site is ideal for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorboats, with a 25 horsepower motor limit in effect. Accessible vault toilets are available on-site for visitor convenience.

Spring Lake South receives significant freshwater input—over 100 acre feet of recharge daily from natural springs and seeps—which creates excellent water conditions for paddling. However, paddlers should be aware that these underwater springs can affect water stability, particularly during winter months if ice fishing is attempted. The nearby Emiquon and Chautauqua National Wildlife Refuges offer excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and paddling exploration in the broader wetland ecosystem at the confluence of the Illinois and Spoon Rivers. Be sure to review current creel and length limits before fishing.
