About This Access Site
The Spring Run Complex offers a convenient boat ramp access to Prairie Lake in Spirit Lake, Dickinson County. The ramp is located approximately 50 feet from the parking lot via an accessible concrete sidewalk, making it easy to load and unload kayaks, canoes, and small boats. Accessible vault toilets are available on-site, and a picnic shelter is located in the North Park area.

Prairie Lake is part of the larger Spring Run wetland complex, which encompasses over 1,300 acres of shallow lakes and marshes across 200 natural and restored wetlands. This shallow-water environment makes it ideal for paddlers seeking calm conditions and excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. The area is known as one of Iowa's premier birding and waterfowl destinations, so expect abundant bird activity, particularly during migration seasons and waterfowl hunting periods.

Before visiting, check current conditions and any seasonal restrictions, as the area is popular with hunters during certain times of year. The shallow nature of these lakes means water levels and conditions can vary seasonally.
