About This Access Site
Spur 406 Campground offers a boat launch onto California Creek and Amistad Reservoir in a remote desert setting along the north shore of the lake. The facility features a concrete ramp located on the east side of the campground; when water levels are low, boats can also be launched from the gravel bank near the bridge. Access is via Spur 406 off US Highway 90. Note that the ramp availability is **dependent on lake levels**—it may be flooded or inaccessible during high water events, and the campground occasionally closes due to such conditions.

The site is rarely crowded except during holiday weekends and remains open year-round. However, the narrow campground road becomes impassable beyond the first six campsites due to overgrown vegetation, so plan your approach carefully if towing a boat. The surrounding area provides scenic desert landscape and access to fishing opportunities on the reservoir.

For current conditions, ramp status, and seasonal closures, contact Amistad National Recreation Area at (830) 775-7491 before your visit. The park's Visitor Center, located six miles west of the Highway 90/277 junction near Del Rio, has additional information about the recreation area.
