The East Slough Sand Ramp provides natural, unmaintained beach access to Apalachicola Bay from St. George Island State Park. Located on the gulf side of the park approximately 2.5 miles from the entrance station, this sand ramp is ideal for kayakers and canoeists looking to launch into one of the Northern Hemisphere's most productive estuarine systems. The natural ramp setting means paddlers should expect soft sand rather than a paved surface and may need to plan accordingly for launching conditions.
Apalachicola Bay offers excellent paddling opportunities with access to nearby St. Vincent National Wildlife Refuge and the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve, both renowned for their ecological significance and recreational potential. The area is popular with anglers and wildlife observers. Note that a Florida fishing license is required if you plan to fish in state waters. Before visiting, confirm current park conditions and access availability, as the park has undergone renovation projects in recent years.
