About This Access Site
Located on Lake Winnibigoshish near Deer River, this access point provides boat ramp and dock facilities for paddlers and boaters heading onto the Mississippi River Headwaters system. The lodge is situated in a protected bay, making it a relatively sheltered launch point. Facilities include a boat ramp, dock space, and on-site services such as a grocery/supply store, bait shop, and boat rentals (including canoes and kayaks). The site is accessible year-round and offers amenities including cabin rentals, laundry facilities, and a swimming beach.

The access is located approximately 13 miles north of Deer River via Highway 46, then west on County Road 9 for six miles, followed by Forest Road 2163 northwest for about five miles. Lake Winnibigoshish is a popular destination for walleye and perch fishing, and paddlers can explore the greater Mississippi River Headwaters system from here. The relatively calm protected bay makes this a good launching point for canoeists and kayakers looking to access the broader lake system.

Tamarack Point campground is 13 miles north of Deer River on Highway 46. Turn west off 46 onto County Road 9.  Travel south on County 9 for six miles before turning west onto Forest Road 2163.  The campground is approximately five miles northwest on Forest Road 2163.
