Starrigavan Bay offers a convenient boat ramp and access point to Katlian Bay and the Pacific Ocean near Sitka, Alaska. The ramp is located at the Starrigavan Campground, about 7 miles north of downtown Sitka. This popular launch site sees high use from anglers during the salmon fishing season from May through August.
The ramp provides direct access to the open waters of Katlian Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Paddlers and small boaters can explore the sheltered inlets and coves of Starrigavan Bay, or venture further out into the larger Katlian Bay. The bay and surrounding area offer opportunities to view wildlife like seabirds, whales, and seals. Nearby Sitka National Historical Park also provides hiking trails and cultural attractions for visitors.
Access to the site is by boat or airplane, as there are no roads leading directly to Sitka. The Starrigavan Campground, located just a short distance from the ramp, offers campsites that can be reserved. Boaters and paddlers should be prepared for the cool, often choppy conditions of the open Pacific environment when launching from this site.
