State Pier #5 in Narragansett provides a concrete boat ramp and sandy beach launch area for access to Rhode Island Sound. The facility features a concrete ramp suitable for trailered boats, though conditions can be challenging at low tide. A small sandy beach adjacent to the ramp offers an excellent alternative for launching kayaks and canoes, making this site particularly convenient for paddlers looking to avoid the ramp entirely.
Once launched, paddlers will be on the open waters of Rhode Island Sound with direct access to the Atlantic Ocean. Nearby paddling opportunities include heading north along the shore toward Narragansett Beach and the entrance to the Narrow River, or exploring the adjacent John H. Chafee National Wildlife Refuge and Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge. Given the open ocean exposure, paddlers should be prepared for variable conditions and plan accordingly based on weather and tide.
