About This Access Site
Staves Landing (also called Blackbird Creek Boat Ramp) is a small, rustic access point in Middletown, DE, suitable for kayaks, canoes, and small boats. Located at the end of Stave Landing Road where it meets Blackbird Creek, the site offers a gravel parking area with limited space—park efficiently as capacity is minimal. Access the parking area by turning right just before the gate and following the dirt road to its end.

**Paddling Conditions & Tips:** Blackbird Creek features strong currents and swirling water at this launch point, so proceed with caution, especially if you're unfamiliar with tidal conditions. Upstream sections are reportedly more interesting and offer better protection from wind, making this primarily an out-and-back paddling destination. The creek's tidal salt marsh environment connects to larger paddling opportunities, including nearby Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge to the south—one of the mid-Atlantic's largest remaining tidal salt marsh areas.

**Getting There:** From US Route 13, take Blackbird Landing Road south approximately 3 miles. Continue several miles on Stave Landing Road before turning right at the gate and following the dirt road to the parking area.
