About This Access Site
Steel Lake is a 46.3-acre freshwater lake in Federal Way, King County, offering year-round access for kayakers, canoeists, and non-motorized boaters. The public access point is located on the west shore at mid-lake and features two boat ramps—one single-lane and one two-lane—providing convenient launch options for small watercraft. The site includes one parking lot with ADA-accessible parking available.

The lake supports several fish species including yellow perch, rainbow trout, largemouth bass, and brown bullhead, making it popular for fishing as well as paddling. While the site lacks restroom facilities, the nearby Steel Lake Park (adjacent to the access area) offers a concession building with restrooms, picnic areas, and beach access. The lake provides good shoreline access and is known as a popular summer destination. Note that camping is not permitted at this site, and the access area is managed year-round by the City of Federal Way.
