The Steese Highway Bridge boat ramp on Birch Creek offers river access for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorboats. Located at mile 147.1 of the Steese Highway, this is a popular put-in and take-out point for float trips on the creek.
Birch Creek is a large, meandering river, over 880 miles long with an average flow of 229 cubic feet per second. The water level and current can vary, so boaters should be prepared for changing conditions. The put-in area has a short trail for carrying gear from the highway pullout to the water.
Downstream, the float trip typically requires dragging or lining boats for the first quarter mile until the North Fork confluence. Boaters may also encounter gravel shallows that require portaging in some sections. The take-out is located about 20 miles downstream at the Steese Highway bridge at mile 137. This site has an outhouse and parking area for loading and unloading.
