About This Access Site
The Sterling Highway Bridge boat ramp provides easy river access to the Kenai River, a large and scenic Alaska waterway. This is a popular launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and small motor boats exploring the upper Kenai River. The boat ramp is located just south of the Sterling Highway bridge, about 1.6 miles south of the Kenai Spur Highway turnoff.

The Kenai River is a substantial, class 6 stream with an average flow of over 1,000 cubic feet per second. It drops 410 feet over its 97-mile length, creating a moderately swift current. Paddlers and boaters should be prepared for these river conditions. The area is situated within the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, offering scenic natural beauty and abundant wildlife viewing opportunities.

Parking is available near the boat launch, though space may be limited. Overflow parking can be found just north of the access road along the Sterling Highway. Be sure to check for any posted regulations or fees before launching. This well-located access point provides a gateway to explore the upper stretches of the renowned Kenai River.
