About This Access Site
The Steuben boat ramp provides access to the lower Kickapoo River in Crawford County, located approximately three-quarters of a mile upstream from where the Kickapoo meets the Wisconsin River. This is a convenient launch point for paddlers and boaters looking to explore the scenic lower section of the river as it transitions into the Wisconsin River Valley floodplains.

**What to Expect:** The area surrounding Steuben features a mix of meadowlands, marshes, and some residential properties along the river-right (north) bank. Be aware that the open floodplain terrain means wind can be a factor, particularly in the final two miles approaching the Wisconsin River confluence. The landscape includes power lines and railroad tracks, but offers pleasant views of the river corridor. Note that there is no public river access on the left (east) bank downstream until the boat launch in Wauzeka at Highway 60.

**Trip Planning:** Paddlers typically use Steuben as a take-out point for multi-day trips originating upstream. The stretch from Taylor Ridge Road to Steuben Landing is approximately 5.0 miles. This lower section is considered a pleasant paddle with scenic bluff vistas in places, though it's relatively straightforward water. Check current water conditions before launching, as the Kickapoo's flows vary seasonally.
