Stillwater Reservoir's state-owned boat launch provides excellent access to this expansive 6,700-acre man-made lake created by the Beaver River Dam. Located on Stillwater Road at the west end of the reservoir (28 miles east of Lowville), the facility features a wide concrete ramp approximately 20 feet across, with ample parking for vehicles and trailers. This is the primary access point for the reservoir and serves as an ideal put-in for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats looking to explore the large, calm waters.
The launch area includes a parking lot and is operated by NYS, with the Ranger's Headquarters located on-site. As a state public boat launch, access is free. The expansive nature of Stillwater Reservoir makes it well-suited for recreational paddling, with calm conditions typical of a reservoir environment. Plan accordingly for the remote location and check current conditions before heading out, especially during winter months when the area experiences extreme cold.
