About This Access Site
Straits Landing Boat Ramp provides access to The Straits, a wide tidal waterway along the Carteret County coast of North Carolina. The ramp features 2 launching lanes and courtesy docks, with ample parking for 39 boat trailers. This is a popular launching point for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorized boats exploring the nearby coastal waters and marshes.

The Straits connects to the Beaufort Inlet and Atlantic Ocean, so boaters can access the open ocean as well as the protected estuarine environment of the North Carolina National Estuarine Research Reserve. Strong tidal currents and open water conditions mean paddlers should exercise caution, plan their trips carefully, and wear appropriate safety gear. The nearest campgrounds are the dispersed beach camping on South Core Banks, accessible only by ferry.
