Sweden Point Marina, located in Marbury off Sweden Point Road (Charles County Route 280), offers excellent access to Mattawoman Creek and the Potomac River. The facility features six concrete boat ramps, 100 standard parking spaces, and 26 handicap-accessible spaces, making it well-suited for kayakers, canoeists, and larger motorboats up to 36 feet. The marina itself maintains 50 slips for boat storage. Paddlers should note that the ramps are traditional concrete launches—there is no soft launch option available.
For paddlers, Sweden Point provides convenient access to diverse paddling opportunities. Mattawoman Creek offers a more sheltered, forested paddling experience, while the Potomac River lies approximately one mile downstream for those seeking open water exploration. The creek at this location is relatively broad with good open water, making it accessible for paddlers of varying skill levels. The site includes amenities such as picnic shelters, pavilions, a playground, and nearby camping options (by reservation), making it ideal for day trips or extended outings.
The area also provides opportunities to explore nearby wildlife refuges, including Elizabeth Hartwell Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge and Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge, both popular for wildlife viewing.
