Sympson Lake

**Location & Access:** Sympson Lake is a 131-acre impoundment on Buffalo Creek located west of Bardstown in Nelson County. To reach the ramp, take US 62 west of Bardstown and turn right on KY 2737 to Sympson Lake. The ramp provides access to a scenic, relatively calm water body suitable for kayaking, canoeing, and motorized boating.

**Permits & Operating Hours:** All boaters must obtain an annual permit from the City of Bardstown before launching. Permits can be obtained from City Hall during regular business hours. Public access is limited to daylight hours only—from one hour before sunrise until one hour after sunset. Both motorized and non-motorized vessels (kayaks, canoes, etc.) are permitted with a valid permit.

**Conditions & Planning:** Water levels can fluctuate seasonally, particularly during summer months when the lake may become quite shallow. This is a good destination for paddlers seeking a protected, smaller body of water, though you should confirm current water conditions and permit requirements with the City of Bardstown before planning your trip.
