About This Access Site
Tama Beach offers a convenient public access point to the Mississippi River in Burlington, Iowa. The site features a single-lane concrete boat ramp with an attached boat dock, located between the levee and river on approximately 3 acres. A gravel parking lot with maneuvering areas accommodates vehicles and trailers, making it suitable for launching kayaks, canoes, and larger motorboats.

As a major river access point on the Mississippi, paddlers should be aware of the river's significant size and power. With an average flow of over 685,000 cubic feet per second and velocities around 11 feet per second, the Mississippi demands respect and preparation. The river's current can be strong, particularly during high water periods, so paddlers should have appropriate experience and safety equipment. Weather conditions and river stage can affect access and paddling conditions, so checking current water levels before visiting is recommended.
