About This Access Site
Thunderbird Marina and RV Resort offers two accessible boat ramps on Milford Lake, Kansas's largest lake, making it a convenient launch point for paddlers and boaters. Located near Junction City on the Republican River, this full-service marina facility features multiple amenities including RV campsites (seasonal, April 1–October 31), boat slips, a sandy beach, restaurant, and on-site storage options. The marina is a gated, secured community, and pets are permitted if leashed.

The Republican River is a large waterway (Stream Order 7) with a drainage area of over 17,000 square miles and an average flow of approximately 1,048 cubic feet per second. The river maintains a moderate gradient of 4.8 feet per mile and an average velocity of 4.78 feet per second, creating a consistent current suitable for various water activities. Milford Lake itself provides calmer conditions compared to the main river channel, making it ideal for recreational boating and paddling. This location offers good access for launching into one of the state's premier water recreation areas, with nearby attractions including the Milford Education Center and Fish Hatchery located below the dam.
