This public boat ramp provides access to the Eel River, a major waterway (Stream Order 8) flowing through north-central Indiana. Located just south of Liberty Mills in Wabash County, this facility offers convenient parking and a launch point for kayaks, canoes, and motorboats. The Eel River is substantial, draining 2,882 square miles with an average flow of over 9,000 cubic feet per second, making it suitable for paddlers seeking a significant river experience.
Paddlers should be aware of several important features along this section of river. A dam exists near Liberty Mills approximately 3.5 hours downstream from this put-in; a short portage is recommended on the right side. Further downstream (about 1 hour away), the Collamer Dam requires a 100-yard portage on the left. The next significant access point downstream is North Manchester. With an average gradient of 31.1 feet per mile and velocity of 3.45 feet per second, expect moderate current and be prepared for dam portages when planning multi-day trips. Water levels can vary seasonally, so checking conditions before your visit is recommended.
