Trinidad Lake State Park offers a well-maintained boat ramp along the Purgatoire River, providing access to this scenic waterway in southern Colorado. The Purgatoire River is a large, fast-moving river, with an average flow of over 220 cubic feet per second and a total drop of over 3,400 feet along its 196-mile length.
The boat ramp is located on the northeast side of Trinidad Lake, off Highway 12. It provides a convenient launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorized boaters looking to explore the lake and the upper Purgatoire River. The lake itself offers 584 acres of open water, with opportunities for motorized boating, water skiing, and fishing. Anglers can target trout, catfish, and bass from the shore or while on the water.
Beyond the boat ramp, Trinidad Lake State Park offers miles of trails for hiking and biking, as well as access to the area's rich history and scenic landscapes. Visitors can enjoy the mild climate and uncrowded nature of this state park, making it an excellent destination for both water-based and land-based recreation.
