About This Access Site
Tunk Lake is a 2,072-acre lake located in Steuben, Hancock County, offering a scenic paddling and boating destination in remote northern Maine. The public boat ramp provides access to this expansive water body, making it suitable for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats. The lake's size and setting make it ideal for both day trips and multi-day explorations, with a primitive campsite available on the Partridge Peninsula at the southern end of the lake that's accessible by water.

To reach the ramp, take Route 182 approximately 6 miles west of Cherryfield. The area is known for fishing opportunities and attracts anglers with small motorboats, though paddlers will find plenty of space on the lake. Before visiting, check Maine's current boating and fishing regulations, as they apply to all water users on Tunk Lake. The remote nature of the lake and surrounding landscape makes it an excellent choice for those seeking a quieter paddling experience away from more developed water access points.
