The Keno boat ramp provides access to the Upper Klamath River, a major river system with considerable flow (averaging over 18,000 cfs) and a steep gradient of approximately 15.9 ft/mile. This single-lane paved ramp is designed for non-motorized watercraft including kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards. Located in Keno off Highway 66, the ramp offers basic parking and is a good launch point for exploring this scenic section of the river as it cuts through the Cascades and Klamath Mountains.
Paddlers should be prepared for dynamic water conditions on this section of the Upper Klamath River. The river features numerous Class II rapids with some Class III sections, so intermediate to advanced paddling skills are recommended. Water velocity averages 4.5 feet per second, and the river's steep gradient means swift current. No permits are required for non-commercial boating, and there are no day-use fees.
The area offers additional resources for paddlers, including nearby Topsy Campground for overnight stays and the Bear Valley National Wildlife Refuge for scenic wildlife viewing. Spring Island Day Use Site provides alternative developed kayak and raft launch access. Plan accordingly for the challenging whitewater conditions and swift current typical of this section of Oregon's Upper Klamath Wild and Scenic River.
