Upper Mud River Lake offers two boat launch ramps for paddlers and boaters in the Palermo area of Lincoln County. The primary paved ramp serves larger boats and general access, while a secondary unpaved launch area is available and primarily used by kayakers and canoeists seeking a quieter entry point. Note that the secondary launch road may be in rough condition depending on weather and maintenance. The 306-acre lake is situated within the Upper Mud River Wildlife Management Area and offers scenic paddling opportunities in the Appalachian Mountains region.
The lake accommodates various water activities with a 10-horsepower motor limit, making it ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. Anglers will find bluegill, crappie, largemouth bass, muskellunge, and channel catfish, with accessible fishing options available for physically challenged anglers. On-site facilities include restrooms, picnic shelters, picnic tables, a swimming beach, playground equipment, and hiking trails. No camping is permitted at the site.
