The Upper Skilak Lake boat ramp provides access to the peaceful waters of Skilak Lake in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. This boat launch is the last ramp on the upper Kenai River system, making it a popular takeout point for paddlers and boaters floating from Kenai Lake or the Kenai River.
The boat ramp has ample parking for vehicles with trailers, though space can be limited at times. Overflow parking is available a short distance away along the Sterling Highway. The campground adjacent to the boat ramp offers 26 campsites, tables, fire pits, water, and restrooms, providing a convenient base for exploring the lake by kayak, canoe, or motorboat.
Skilak Lake is a large glacial lake covering over 10 square miles. Its calm, protected waters make it well-suited for recreational boating, fishing, and wildlife viewing. Boaters and paddlers should be aware that the lake can experience sudden wind and wave conditions. Accessing the lake is possible via the Skilak Lake Road, which runs for 19 miles between Sterling Highway mileposts 58 and 75.2.
