About This Access Site
The US 59 Bridge provides public access to the Angelina River near Lufkin, with approximately 600 feet of shoreline available just north of the bridge crossing and an additional 500 feet at the crossing itself. This access point is managed by Texas Parks & Wildlife Department and offers a convenient launch location for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats on this scenic East Texas waterway.

Paddlers should be aware that the Angelina River in this area can experience variable water levels, particularly when water is being released from the upstream dam. The river features several off-channel "lakes" or wider sections a mile or two downstream from the access point, offering diverse paddling opportunities. Be mindful of motorboat traffic, especially during peak recreation times, as this is a popular spot for both power boating and fishing. The location sits approximately 12 miles south of Nacogdoches and provides good access for day trips and longer paddling adventures along the river.
