About This Access Site
Vandalia Lake is a 660-acre recreational lake located approximately 4 miles northwest of Vandalia in Fayette County, accessible via Illinois Route 185. The lake features 12 miles of shoreline and an average depth of 25 feet, making it suitable for kayaking, canoeing, and motorized boating. A full-service marina is available at the access point, offering boat rentals, fuel, bait, fishing supplies, and snacks for visitors.

The site provides comprehensive amenities including a boat ramp, boat dock, and designated beach area. Camping is available seasonally (Memorial Day weekend through late September), and picnicking facilities are on-site. Note that a City of Vandalia boat permit is required to operate on the lake.
