About This Access Site
The Vantage South ramp is a free public launch facility operated by Kittitas County, conveniently located immediately north of Interstate 90 at Vantage. The large parking lot and boat ramp provide easy access to Lake Wanapum, the reservoir created by Wanapum Dam on the Columbia River. This is an excellent put-in point for kayakers and canoeists looking to explore the scenic Columbia River Gorge area, with nearby amenities and services available in the small town of Vantage.

Lake Wanapum offers relatively calm, protected waters ideal for recreational paddling and boating. Water depth can vary seasonally, and conditions tend to be more favorable during periods when the reservoir level is higher. The ramp serves both day-use paddlers and those planning multi-day trips on the reservoir. Be aware that off-road vehicle use is prohibited on exposed shorelines and beaches throughout the Wanapum area to protect these sensitive habitats.

The surrounding landscape features dramatic views of the Saddle Mountains ridge and semi-arid terrain typical of south-central Washington. Nearby recreation areas and the Vantage State Park make this location a good base for exploring the region's outdoor recreation opportunities.
