Vian Creek

Vian Creek provides a two-lane concrete boat ramp with dock access located on the northeast corner of Robert S. Kerr Reservoir near Carlisle in Sequoyah County. The ramp features paved parking, making it convenient for launching kayaks, canoes, and motorboats. This access point serves the scenic Robert S. Kerr Pool, a major impoundment along the Arkansas River Navigation System managed by the Army Corps of Engineers.

The reservoir offers excellent paddling conditions with abundant recreational opportunities. The broader Arkansas River system is a major waterway (ranked as a "Major River" comparable to the Mississippi and Missouri), averaging over 51,000 cubic feet per second of flow. The lake area is known for its scenic beauty throughout the year and supports diverse fishing for crappie, sand bass, catfish, and black bass. Nearby facilities include picnic areas, camping sites with RV and tent options, swimming beaches, and hiking trails, making Vian Creek a good base for extended water recreation.

Paddlers should note the reservoir's size and the active navigation system with barge traffic passing through the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System locks. The area offers observation decks at the visitor center for viewing lock operations, and the surrounding 10,000+ acres are managed for public hunting and recreation.
