Waldo Carlson Park provides convenient public access to Red Cedar Lake via a boat ramp and docks on the lake's northwest side. Located 1.5 miles north of Mikana on State Highway 48 near Birchwood, this 17-acre park is a good launching point for kayakers, canoeists, and boaters exploring the 1,897-acre lake. The site operates on a first-come, first-served basis and can fill up during peak weekends, so consider arriving early.
Red Cedar Lake is a substantial water body with a maximum depth of 53 feet, but paddlers should note that water clarity is low. The lake supports popular gamefish including panfish, bass, pike, and walleye. Beyond the boat ramp, Waldo Carlson Park offers additional amenities including boat docks, a campground, picnic facilities, swimming area, playground, and pit toilets, making it suitable for both day trips and overnight stays.
