Waneta Lake

**Location & Access:** Waneta Lake boat ramp is located off County Route 23, approximately 2 miles west of the hamlet of Tyrone in Dundee, Schuyler County. The launch features a hard surface concrete ramp with parking available nearby. This is a free public access point that serves both Waneta and the adjacent Lamoka Lake.

**Paddling Conditions:** Waneta Lake offers a scenic, protected paddling experience with abundant waterfowl and wildlife viewing opportunities. The lake is generally calmer than nearby Finger Lakes, making it suitable for kayaks and canoes. However, exercise caution in the channel connecting to the lake, as water levels can be shallow—particularly in late summer when lake levels drop. Paddlers should plan accordingly if visiting during low-water periods.

**Nearby Recreation:** The access point provides easy paddle access to both Waneta and Lamoka Lakes, with the surrounding area near Finger Lakes National Forest offering additional outdoor recreation opportunities. The lakes support healthy populations of largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, chain pickerel, and other gamefish species, making this a popular destination for fishing as well as paddling.
