About This Access Site
Washington Park's boat ramp at Sunset Beach provides convenient access to Rosario Strait and surrounding waters including Guemes Channel, Burrows Channel, and Deception Pass. Located on the western edge of Anacortes, this 220-acre park sits on a peninsula with excellent views and is suitable for kayakers, canoeists, and motorized boaters. The ramp is well-maintained with nearby restrooms and facilities.

**Practical Launch Information:** The day-use parking area adjacent to the ramp is popular and can fill quickly. If busy, an alternative parking lot (Lot A) is available up the road, though it requires a slightly longer carry to the water. Please move your vehicle after launching to free up parking for other users. A Washington State Parks day-use fee applies year-round. The park also offers overnight camping with 68 RV and tent sites, showers, and restroom facilities if you plan an extended trip.

**For Navigation:** This is an excellent jumping-off point for exploring the San Juan Islands area. Paddlers should consult NOAA charts for Rosario Strait and surrounding waters, as conditions can be challenging. The nearby Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve and San Juan Islands National Wildlife Refuge offer additional paddling opportunities in more protected waters with seagrass meadows, tidal flats, and salt marshes.
