The East Ramp at West Branch State Park provides convenient access to Michael J Kirwan Reservoir and the West Branch Mahoning River near Wayland in Portage County. This non-reservable facility features dedicated boat launch ramps with ample parking for trucks, trailers, and vehicles. Courtesy docks are available seasonally (in place for the 2024 boating season), and a marina with dock rentals operates across the bay on an annual lottery system through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Paddlers and boaters should be aware of the no-wake zones that extend 300 feet from all shorelines, with additional no-wake restrictions west of the Rock Spring Road causeway. The reservoir offers a calm water environment suitable for kayaking, canoeing, and recreational boating. Beyond water access, West Branch State Park features miles of scenic trails through woods and meadows for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, including a connection to the statewide Buckeye Trail. To reach the East Ramp from Route 5, look for Knapp Road and turn left—the ramp is located approximately one football field's distance from the road.
