West Cove offers convenient access to the canal system in Cameron Parish, with an easily accessible boat ramp suitable for kayaks, canoes, and small boats. Located near Holly Beach (approximately 5 miles east on LA-27 S from the town center), this launch point provides direct access to scenic marsh and coastal waterways managed by the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge. Paddlers can expect relatively calm canal conditions ideal for beginners and recreational paddling.
From the West Cove launch, paddlers have roughly 1 mile to reach West Cove proper, with another mile or so to Old Camp Canal along the south shoreline. Be aware that the canal experiences some motorboat traffic. The refuge setting provides excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing, including migratory waterfowl and coastal marsh ecosystems. Visit during off-peak hours for a more tranquil experience. Nearby picnic areas offer scenic rest spots along the way.
