About This Access Site
Located at Mile 60.28 on the Champlain Canal in historic Whitehall, NY, this access site sits strategically at the entrance to Lock 12, marking the boundary between the canal system and Lake Champlain to the north. The site features a concrete ramp and low dock, making it suitable for launching and retrieving motorboats, canoes, and kayaks. This location is ideal for paddlers accessing either the scenic waters of Lake Champlain or the canal system heading south toward the Hudson River.

Boaters should note that navigation aids on the Champlain Canal follow the U.S. Coast Guard lateral buoyage system, with an important reversal north of Lock 12 (where red markers shift from starboard to port). All canal locks are 328 feet long and 45 feet wide, accommodating vessels up to 300 feet in length. Parking is available for multiple vehicles and trailers at the access area. The site's proximity to Lock 12 and Lake Champlain makes it a convenient hub for multi-day trips or day explorations of either waterway.
