About This Access Site
Whites Ferry Landing provides boat ramp access to the South River in Marshfield, located next to the Marshfield Yacht Club. This Town of Marshfield facility accommodates both paddlers and motorboats, with a small boat ramp available for launching. A use fee applies. The landing is owned and maintained by the town and offers a convenient entry point to this significant waterway.

The South River is a substantial waterway—a large river (Stream Order 6) with an 83-mile length and 491-square-mile drainage basin. Paddlers should expect moderate current conditions with an average flow of 559 cubic feet per second and velocity around 2 feet per second, making it suitable for intermediate paddlers. The river's gentle average gradient of 1.3 feet per mile suggests relatively stable conditions without major rapids, though water levels and flow rates vary seasonally. The river eventually connects to coastal waters near Cape Cod, offering diverse paddling opportunities from inland freshwater to tidal sections.

Before visiting, contact the Town of Marshfield directly to confirm current hours, parking availability, and any access fees. Note that the historic White's Ferry operations have ceased, though the landing itself remains operational for boat access.
