The Windmill Lake boat ramp provides year-round access to a 29.6-acre freshwater lake in Grant County's Seep Lakes Wildlife Area. This is a well-developed access point with one hand launch, three parking lots (including two ADA-accessible spaces), two restrooms, and three fishing platforms. The site is ideal for kayakers, canoeists, and small boat anglers looking for a straightforward launch into calm water.
Windmill Lake was rehabilitated in 2010 to restore its Rainbow Trout fishery, and fishing remains good for 12-18 inch trout. The lake is best explored by boat since shoreline access is limited to the immediate launch area. From here, paddlers can also access the nearby Canal and Heart Lakes. The setting is peaceful and situated within the Columbia National Wildlife Refuge, known for its expansive landscape and abundant wildlife—making it a scenic destination for a quiet paddle.
Camping is permitted at the site, making this a good option for a multi-day trip. Keep in mind that the North Windmill Lake area requires a short hike to access. Whether you're launching a canoe, kayak, or small motorboat, this well-maintained facility offers reliable access to a quality recreation area.
