About This Access Site
Wolf Lake is a 289-acre lake located eight miles west of Ely in St. Louis County. The boat ramp is accessed via a shallow ramp on the south side of the lake from an access road off Highway 169. This Ecological Class 5 lake has a maximum depth of 28 feet and features brown, bog-stained water typical of the Superior National Forest region.

The lake provides access to backcountry camping opportunities, including West Twin Lake, which is accessible only by boat or foot. The backcountry site on West Twin Lake is first-come, first-served and features a fire grate, latrine, and picnic table. Paddlers should be prepared to treat or boil all water, hang food packs, and follow Leave No Trace practices. Nearby camping is also available at Fenske Lake Campground (reservable). The shallow ramp may require caution during low water conditions, particularly for larger boats or trailers.
