Woodhead Park offers a primary boat launch access to Brownlee Reservoir, a 57-mile-long impoundment on the Idaho-Oregon border and the largest reservoir in the Hells Canyon complex. Located 23 miles northwest of Cambridge on Idaho Highway 71, the facility features two boat ramps with ample parking and is managed across 65 acres with multiple camping loops. The park includes a fish cleaning station near the restrooms and a reservable day-use picnic shelter, making it suitable for both day trips and extended visits.
Paddlers and boaters should be aware that water levels on Brownlee Reservoir fluctuate seasonally, and boat ramps may become unusable during low-water periods—it's worth checking current reservoir elevation before launching. The 13,000-acre reservoir spans over 50 miles and offers excellent opportunities for boating and fishing. Woodhead Park is one of the primary Idaho access points to the reservoir, alongside Steck Park, providing a well-developed staging area for kayakers, canoeists, and larger watercraft exploring this major water body in the Hells Canyon region.
