About This Access Site
The Yakutat boat ramp and access site is located on the northern shore of Monti Bay in the remote town of Yakutat, Alaska. Accessible only by air or water, the site is operated by the City and Borough of Yakutat and primarily used by smaller commercial fishing vessels. The harbor facilities include six main floats, a launch ramp, and a grid.

For kayakers, canoeists, and recreational boaters, the Yakutat launch provides access to explore the scenic coastal waters of Yakutat Bay. Boats can travel approximately 20 miles out through Monti Bay to reach the open waters of the Pacific Ocean at the mouth of Yakutat Bay, or they can fish and recreate within the more sheltered waters of the bay, navigating among its many islands. The surrounding landscape features giant mountains, enormous glaciers, and temperate rainforests, offering a dramatic and rugged backdrop for paddling and boating.

While the Yakutat area encompasses 155 miles of little-known coastline within Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve, the boat ramp itself is located outside the park boundaries. Visitors should be prepared for the remote and exposed nature of this coastal environment, bring all necessary safety and navigation equipment, and check weather and tidal conditions before launching.
