The Yampa River State Park boat ramp provides access to a 242-mile long major river system in northwestern Colorado. The Yampa River is a large, fast-flowing waterway with an average gradient of 11.4 feet per mile and an average flow of over 2,300 cubic feet per second.
This access point, located in the town of Maybell, offers a developed boat ramp for launching kayaks, canoes, and small motorized boats. Nearby amenities include vault toilets, parking, and picnic sites. The park provides access to about 10 miles of the Yampa River between sites 4 and 6. Boaters should be aware that much of the river flows through private property, so access is limited to the float fishing season.
For those continuing downstream, the next access point is 17 miles away at Moffat County Road 19 or the Sunbeam access off Highway 318. Paddlers and boaters in Dinosaur National Monument will need a permit to float that section of the Yampa River. With its large flows and swift current, the Yampa River presents a challenging but scenic experience for experienced river users.
