The Yampa River State Park boat ramp provides access to the scenic Yampa River in northwestern Colorado. The Yampa is a major river, spanning over 240 miles with an average flow of over 2,300 cubic feet per second. This section has an elevation drop of around 2,700 feet, giving it a relatively steep gradient of 11 feet per mile on average.
The boat ramp at Yampa Valley Golf Course offers a basic launch point for kayaks, canoes, and small motorized boats to access around 10 miles of the Yampa River within the state park. Nearby Loudy Simpson Park also has a developed boat ramp and recreation area. Boaters should be aware that much of the Yampa River flows through private property, so access may be limited outside of designated public sites. For those continuing downstream, the next access point is at Moffat County Road 19, about 17 miles from the Yampa Valley Golf Course ramp. Permits are required to float the Yampa through Dinosaur National Monument. Paddlers and boaters should plan accordingly and respect private landowners along this rugged, free-flowing river.
