The facility's marina setting offers some protection from wind and waves, which is particularly valuable on this expansive 132,000-acre lake. Paddlers should note that Mille Lacs is known for variable weather and can develop significant chop, so this protected access point is a practical choice. The location in Onamia on the lake's northeast side positions paddlers well for exploring the northern portions of the lake and accessing nearby Mille Lacs National Wildlife Refuge for wildlife viewing opportunities.
