Located in Salt Lick near Bath County, Zilpo is a well-developed access point on Cave Run Lake's eastern shore, situated within the scenic Daniel Boone National Forest. The boat ramp provides convenient launching for kayaks, canoes, and motorboats on this 8,270-acre lake. The recreation area includes a sandy beach, picnic facilities, and scenic hiking trails, making it an excellent destination for a full day of paddling and exploration. The site is approximately 60 miles east of Lexington.
**Important operational notes:** The beach and boat ramp close when lake levels exceed 740 feet, so check current conditions before visiting. Three reservable campgrounds are located within 10 miles—Claylick Boat-In, Twin Knobs, and Boat Gunnel Group—offering overnight options for extended trips. Cave Run Lake has 12 accessible boat ramps total, providing flexibility for planning loops or exploring different sections of the lake.
