Description
This section will not be of much interest to most boaters, since it consists of Class I flatwater/moving water and mostly parallels Interstate 70, subjecting it to constant highway noise over most of its run, but is included to be inclusive of most of the non-tidal Potomac River.  The Put-in is at the Little Tonoloway Day use Recreation area in Hancock, MD.  The Tonoloway Creek Aqueduct/Bowles House is 1.4 miles below the put-in.  The first campground is Little Pool campground 3.8 miles below the Hancock put-in.  The Licking Creek Aqueduct and C&O hiker/biker campground is on the Maryland side (8.0 miles below Hancock).  Take-out at the Big Pool campground at Fort Frederick State Park, roughly 12.0 miles below Hancock.  If you use this as a take-out, please arrange to leave the cars at the visitor center, not at the campground, so as to not deprive a camper of a site.
