Description
The Big Pool Campground at Fort Frederick State Park is the put-in for this stretch.  If you use this as a put-in, please arrange to leave the cars at the visitor center, not at the campground, so as to not deprive a camper of a site.  An alternate access point is McCoy's Ferry launching ramp about 2.7 miles downstream from Big Pool.   North Mountain C&O hiker/biker campground is about 0.4 miles below McCoy's Ferry and the Four Locks boat ramp and picnic area is 7.8 miles downstream from Big Pool - also an access point.  Dam # 5, located about 9.5 miles downstream from Big Pool, requires a rough portage on river left and is also a potential access point.  Jordan Junction C&O hiker/biker campground is about  15.2 miles below Big Pool.   Take-out is at the confluence of Conococheague Creek with the Potomac at Williamsport, MD.  A run from Dam #5 to Williamsport is about 7 miles long.
