Description
The Upper Chewuch, the most challenging of the runs on this river, flows through a nice canyon with some good whitewater. Stay alert for wood hazards. Logistics: On the west side of Winthrop at Highway 20 mile 192.6, turn north on West Chewuch Road (next to the town ball field and across from the Red Barn). Continue on this road for about 17 miles to Camp 4 Campground for the take-out (just downstream of the bridge). Head another 5 miles up the road to the Andrews Creek Trailhead for the put-in. Note that if you park in the Camp 4 campground you need to pay the day use fee--alternatively, you may load/unload and park outside the campground. The Andrews Creek Trailhead requires a Northwest Forest Pass.
