1. Route 73 to Split Rock Falls

This run is almost as high quality as its neighbor John's Brook, although it's a little easier and involves no hiking.  Definitely one of the top runs in NY. Starting at the route 73 bridge, on what is at first the North Fork of the Boquet, the bedrock drop just downstream is known as the Shoebox and is significantly harder than the general character of the run.  For the next 3 miles the general theme is boulder gardens with a little bit of bedrock mixed in.  It's mellower before the South Branch confluence about 1 mile downstream of the put in.  The last gorge down to Split Rock Falls is great channelized boating and features one spot in particular to watch out for, Andy's Hole, which has been known to dish up life threatening beat downs at higher water.  Once you arrive at the bridge, Split Rock is just downstream.  Most runs will end here as decent water for the run indicates a burly flow for Split Rock.  Below Split Rock is an extremely impressive gorge which to the author's knowledge has been run once in its entirety.  The first drop in there is definately full on, for sure one of the burliest runnable drops in NY.  You could put in below it with significant effort for a 1/4 mile of beautiful locked in boating. If you arrive at the river and discover the put in looks boney, the last gorge upstream of Split Rock is very channelized and can offer up good fun when the rest is a little too low.  Also, split rock itself is runnable down to very low levels, when it sees most of its runs. If you're into exploring, both the North Fork and the South Fork have been checked out above Route 73, and the North Fork features a pretty spectacular gorge a few miles up from the bridge.
